Once again the annual car racing in Ellon is being held on 30th August 2015.
This pedal car race is being organised by Ellon Rotary Club who raise thousands of pounds each year for local charities and good causes. I hear there has been another increase in the number of teams being entered for the now ever growing more famous car racing in Ellon event.
Link to Formula 1 Cars?
As it is not an official formula 1 event we are unlikely to see Bernie Ecclestone and his race entourage present. However, this does mean that security in the pits area will be a little more lax than you might find at events such as the British Grand Prix or Monte Carlo.
Car Racing in Ellon For Spectators
You will be able to stroll around the pits area and see the team mechanics carefully doing last minute checks to ensure that they comply with all the rules yet engines tuned for overall maximum performance. Despite all the safety restrictions, all car racing in Ellon events can be dangerous so spectators are advised to follow the restrictions placed on them during races by Race Marshalls. Please do not try to cross the race track whilst car races (or bike races) are in progress.
I have yet to see the final programme of events but last year the racing car pits were in Neil Ross Square (just across from McColls in Bridge Street) and open to spectators between noon and 2 pm.
Check on the published timetable to avoid disappointment if you are looking to mix with these racing car drivers and team members. I am sure most of the racing car drivers will be available for selfies, photos or autographs if asked nicely and donation offered.
All the usual side shows and stalls are going to be available for spectators again but this year will be different in that they will also incorporate road running races for humans. Thankfully they will also be upgrading their audio system to improve the loudspeaker announcements so you will be able to hear safety announcements that much easier.
Car Service Parking
We are going to see large numbers of racing cars, cyclists and spectators in Ellon Town Centre again so we suggest you park at Ellon Park and Ride near Tesco. There will be a Bus Service from there to the car race track (free but donations will be welcomed).
Note: If you are going to be attending the event as a participant or spectator you should be aware that the Ellon town centre streets will be closed to traffic. if you are looking to travel by car or motorbike through Ellon Town centre you should avoid the area around Bridge Street and local streets between 10 am and around 6 pm.
Look forward to seeing you there. Scott from Croft Autotech in Ellon
