There is a lot of stuff being shouted around the internet about just how much can you extra horsepower or torque etc you can expect from ECU remapping services on your car? It even sounds at times as though it is like an online auction with different suppliers of the ECU remapping service all trying to outbid each other claiming they are better than anyone else in their area.
This hype is getting to the point of well exceeding the trading standards law with “improvement promises” being couched in language which is promising speeds achieved only by Formula 1 cars on a racetrack.
OKAY, That may be a slight exaggeration on my behalf but some of the adverts I have read are not far short of that!
Warning! Warning! About ECU Remapping Services
I have seen on eBay and other online auction sites adverts for a CD filled with ECU remapping configuration settings for various cars — normally several hundred on the same CD. The original source of the files is to say at least dubious and probably stolen from a list of ordinary factory settings. At worse, they may have hacks or bugs in them which could ruin your car engine entirely.
Why do you not already have the best ECU Remapping settings?
You will have seen else where on this website some statements why car manufacturers are not able to give you the best possible settings that your car could achieve. For example:
a) They have to comply with different emission standards for each country they sell into. It would be uneconomical to have to build different ecu mapping settings for each and every country. It is not always known when a car rolls off the production line where it will end up.
b) Settings will vary according to weather, for example, normal air temperature differs widely between southern Italy and Aberdeenshire Scotland. That would affect the carb/injector and or fuel pressure settings.
c) Genuinely new models are expensive and time-consuming to produce. Maximising settings for each new model when first launched will prevent them bring out a new upgraded version of the same model the following year. They can save money by producing a model with a setting that produces only 80% of the power the first year. Upgrading the ECU mapping settings that following year to 90% of the maximum means a new surge in sales as people want to upgrade to the “new” much more expensive model. The following year they can bring out an even more improved version at 95% of full power.
d) A genuine ECU remapping performance tuning expert will take time to discuss your style of driving to be able to offer you the best value settings. For example
- a person who does a lot of long distance driving on motorway standard roads will be looking at increasing speed for overtaking etc.
- a person who is regularly towing a trailer or boat will need more pulling power.
- a company who owns a fleet of cars or vans may be trying to reduce its fuel bill.
The ideal setting for each of these different customers are likely to be very different. Someone who simply purchases a cd from eBay and then “claims to be an expert” will not know what works best for you.
That is the reason Croft Autotech offer you a range of settings. One of them will give you the maximum performance settings, a second one will give you maximum fuel economy settings. The third will give you a hybrid of the first two.
Obviously, the hybrid will not give quite the very top performance but if you are driving around a busy city centre most of the time when would you ever use that top speed. However, it will give a noticeable boost in performance whilst also giving you extra miles for each and every litre of fuel you use.
Your ordinary factory production line obviously can’t give you that choice of settings. That something only your local experts like Croft Autotech staff can produce for you.
What can you reasonably expect when we do an ECU remapping exercise on your car?
First of all, we need to be honest. Every car is different. Some may already have some engine modifications fitted. Others have not been maintained correctly and engines may be worn. However, we are confident we can bring you some major improvements
In addition, every driver is also different. Some will put their foot down harder than others. Some use country winding roads others use fast carriageways.
So the figures we give have to be average. Some of you will get far higher performance figures than we quote here online. However, we will always try to give you a more accurate figure when we meet with you and your car.
We are able to do ECU remapping on practically every modern car (after the year 2000) but also some older brands as well. We show figures only for some of the most popular cars below. If your car is not listed amongst them please get in touch directly with Scott on 01358 722112.
Typical ECU remapping results you could expect from these car brands Click your car manufacturers brand below to see more details. More pages are still being built. See results for car ecu remapping across Aberdeenshire of other brands as well
Others are being added on a regular basis but if you are looking for a different car manufacturer just give us ring on 01358 722112 now
